What is Windows End-of-Life?

“All good things must come to an end.” These words are especially true in the world of computers and IT, wherever-changing technology means that software and hardware eventually become obsolete and must be replaced.

Microsoft will be placing Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2 support at end of life beginning October 10, 2023. What this means is after this date, all these products will no longer receive critical security patching or technical support. If you are unsure whether you have a 2012 or 2012 R2 server or would like to learn more about this, please contact us for our free consultation.

Reasons to upgrade?

  • Compliance issues:For healthcare and e-commerce industries that deal with lots of sensitive customer data, entrusting your data to an out of support technology could be against the law
  • Financial burden: Large costs could be incurred trying to run and maintain an out of support server running on old hardware
  • Security: With Microsoft no longer offering security patches for the products, this leaves your organization in a vulnerable position to ransomware and virus attacks.
  • Compatibility: As time goes by on your old server, you will find fewer applications that will work with your old operating system. This may mean having to use older versions of apps that themselves may be out of service.
  • Poor performance: All-round performance is just going to be slower on the legacy versions.
